    Spring 2022: Tulips

Way way back when in November, we planted tulips. Nothing too fancy. It was just a fun experiment. A last minute decision. It was a learning a experience and we kept our hopes fairly low. We didn't want to get our hopes too high since we ordered our bulbs late. The only tulips we had ever grown were in the yard and had been there since I was a kid. I remember walking up to the lilac bush in the rain to pick the red tulips and yellow daffodils that grew around the bottom.

    The Flower Farm on Film

Every once in a while, I like to show some of my film! This is the first year I'm going to be able to document the flower season completely on film and I am quite excited. All these beautiful garden shots were all taken this Spring. Film forces me to think more about each shot I take. With my digital camera, I can take as many pictures as I need. Most of the time that means I take too many pictures. . .after all these years I'm still obsessed with flowers and it shows in t

2020 in Flowers: a look back over the season

So 2020 is over. 2020 was. a. year. To be honest, I've forgotten how the year started. I don't remember learning that we weren't going to have our traditional farmers' market in Market Square. I barely remember setting up the online shop here on the website. What a strange "new normal." But we can't forget the flower season, can we? It was too beautiful to be forgotten. In order to brighten up your January, we're doing a look back on our favorite moments from the flower fa

    Foothills Parkway Styled Shoot

Oh y'all are in for a treat! Napping Cat Flower Farm + Wildfire Hearts Photography styled shoot! My dear friend Emily reached out to me the other day with a need for flowers. She had a styled shoot scheduled one morning on the Foothills Parkway and needed something to match the mood for her vision. Emily sent me a beautiful Pinterest board with the dress, makeup, flowers, and all the pretty details of what she planned for the shoot. But, the thing with Pinterest is that you o

    Farm Update: Fall 2020

It's fall in East Tennessee and what a stunning fall it is. When people say that fall is their favorite season, I can't agree with them, but only because fall seems so short to me. I'm partial to summer honestly. I absolutely love fall, but I always feel like right when we're settling in to the cooler and less humid days and chilly nights, suddenly it's winter. But right now I'm enjoying myself immensely and will enjoy the autumn weather while it lasts. My roommate and I ha

    Farm Update: June 2020

We're finally transitioning out of spring and into summer flowers! Not that I don't love spring flowers. I LOVE spring flowers. Ranunculus, larkspur, stock... all the cool weather flowers that are such a relief to see after a long winter. But now the HOT weather flowers are coming in: sunflowers, scabiosa, yarrow, statice, and so many more. I'm stoked. So for you curious flower lovers, I'm gonna take you through what's in the garden now! First up, Sunflowers! Sunflowers are

    The Sweet Pea Forest

Although every year is different, this year has been extremely unique. It seems like several of our flower crops have been much bigger and healthier than previous seasons. It's really neat to see! One of the crops doing unusually well are the sweet peas! We made sure to build sturdy structures so that the sweet peas had plenty to climb. We've been doing our best to keep up with harvesting in order to encourage more blooms. We had a difficult start to the sweet pea season be

    Farm Update: Spring 2020

What a strange Spring it has been so far. Who could have expected the world to change this much in a matter of months? So much uncertainty, fear, and ups and downs. It's been a rollercoaster ride for sure. I never dreamed that I wouldn't return to school after Spring break. The transition to online classes was surreal. It brought many challenges of having to try and stay organized while receiving what seemed like 100 email updates each day from professors who were scrambl

    Ranunculus Time in Tennessee!

We've waited so long for this. And now the time is finally HERE!! If you don't know, these beauties are called ranunculus. a.k.a. little rainbow easter egg unicorns of happiness. I don't really call them that but they are pretty much magical. Most people don't have the opportunity to see what we see in the flower field. The way they look altogether in the field, the way the sunlight comes through and illuminates them in the evenings, and watching them transform from a tight s

    Embracing Seasonality: pt 2

I enjoyed roaming the yard while the sun was setting. I felt like a little kid again. I could smell the crabapple tree in our front yard and realized it took me right back to the days I used to climb it. My dad used to climb the tree with me. My cats would even join in if you can believe it; Whisper, Casey, and Hazel all liked to participate in whatever I was doing in the yard. I used to pick tulips from our front yard, too. Even before we had our flower farm, I still had

    First Buds of the Season

This has been a looong winter. I think a lot of you flower-lovers will agree with that. It's been wet, gloomy, cloudy, rainy, soggy..... But now, what you've all been waiting for..... The First Real Buds of the Season are here!! Of course, I jumped on the opportunity to photograph any signs of life in the field. These pictures were taken the week of March 8th. I decided to make a bouquet of all the pretty things blooming in the yard that week. Daffodils, peach tree blossoms,

First Farmers' Market of the Season!

Today was our first Farmers' Market of the 2019 season! We're so thankful the rain held off and gave us a beautiful, sunny morning of selling flowers! We had beautiful bouquets with bells of Ireland, poppies, peonies, sweet peas, clematis, delphinium, forget-me-nots, and stock. It was the last week of ranunculus...until next year! Summer blooms are on their way in the garden. If you missed us this week, stop by next week and grab a bouquet for Mother's Day! If you've never be
